Training Day August 14th
Our 2 trainers, Zsuzsi and Anna, are both certified teachers of the USA based Hand in Hand parenting approach, Parenting by Connection.
They introduced 3 fundamental tools: Listening Partnerships, Special Time, Play Listening, and touched on Stay Listening and Setting Loving Limits.
The day was well attended, with 36 learners – some were Embercombe paid staff, some apprentices and volunteers, some Council members, and some local family practitioners from the area. We asked all our Summer Camp staff (volunteers and paid) to attend. This gave us a shared understanding of the PbC tools which we wanted to underpin how we related to children during the Summer Camp.
The day was successful.
There was a mix of information given in lecture style, with flip-charts, exercises in pairs to get an experience of the listening tools, games as a group, which included movement.
We used funds to offer this training at no cost, and to serve participants lunch, and offer those who’d travelled some distance a bed for the night.
We had a second Training Day,August 15th,
just for Camp Team. On this day we
continued with some Parenting by Connection training, and also added some team
building training based on what Tim Hall had learned during his visit to our
French partner in May 2014. We invited
our Hungarian partner, Hanka, to offer an exercise she’d done with us in Czech
Repubic as part of the Emotional Intelligence seminar we’d attended last
February.
We invited our partners, Zsuzsanna and
Hanka, who were there for the training days to join us for a meal in the local
pub.
